- In a mixing bowl combine the softened butter and sugar until creamy
- Add eggs one at a time mixing well after each addition
- Incorporate the ground almonds rum and vanilla extract mix until you obtain a smooth almond cream
- Place one circle of puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
- Spread the almond cream in the center leaving a 2 cm border
- If using insert the charm or bean into the cream
- Cover with the second circle of puff pastry
- Seal the edges by gently pressing with your fingers then slightly fold the edges for a clean finish
- Create a decorative pattern on top with a knife without cutting through the pastry
- Mix the egg yolk with milk and brush over the entire surface
- Refrigerate for 1 hour
- Preheat oven to 180C 350F
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving
