- Slice the onions into thin strips.
- Heat a pan over medium-high heat.

- Sprinkle in the sugar and salt, using a bit more sugar than salt. Stir to combine.
- Once the soy sauce has evaporated, add a small amount of water to the pan.
- Continue cooking until the water evaporates and the onions are soft and fully caramelized.
- Serve as a delicious side dish or as a topping for meats, sandwiches, or burgers.
