  1. Mix together the flour, sugar, butter, and egg until well combined
  2. Refrigerate the dough for 1 hour
  3. Roll out the dough to 5mm thickness and cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters (stars, trees, circles, hearts)
  4. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden around the edges
  5. Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating
  6. For the royal icing: Mix the powdered sugar with egg white and lemon juice until smooth
  7. Divide the icing into portions and add different food colorings as desired
  8. Adjust consistency with small amounts of water – thicker for outlines, slightly thinner for flooding
  9. Transfer each color to piping bags and decorate cookies as desired with seasonal designs
  10. Let the icing dry completely at room temperature before storing
