There are many reasons to go local for food, support its local community, environmental, ethics, , gastronomical. I believe the debate will never stop at Farmnetz.
Personally, I am quite divided on that, on the one hand it’s impossible (hence the title) but on the other hand I think that we are so so strongly shaped by our local environment and therefore eating local food seems the most natural thing to do.

-Chef Dan Barber, of Blue Hill in New York and Blue Hill at Stone Barns, is one of the most vocal proponents of the farm-to-table/locavore movement. In an interview with The New Yorker, Barber said, “The idea that we could ever feed the world on local food is ludicrous. It’s a nice romantic idea, but it’s not based in reality.”

There are a number of reasons why these chefs and food writers believe that a local food system wouldn’t work on a global scale.

-They argue that it would be impossible to grow enough food to feed everyone if we relied solely on local farms.
-They also say that the food would be more expensive, and that many people would go hungry because they wouldn’t be able to afford it.
-Finally, they argue that local food systems are not sustainable, and that we need to find a way to produce food that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels. (although, this is a very important argument)

Some others are not scared by these arguments and with relaxing a little the definition of local which (let’s say a few 100 km away) some manage to achieve quite impressive feast
I have been pleased to meet with a very opinionated snack producer who has gone to quite to some extent to produce the finest cakes, cookies and other delicious snacks, almost all based on local supplies. This is a great addition to the Farmnetz community which is made of people who share a passion for food and have strong opinion, but most importantly are committed to deliver the finest food experience to you!

A lot of people think that it is important to eat locally grown food for a number of reasons. They argue that local food is fresher and tastier, that it supports local farmers, and that it is more environmentally friendly.

There are a few ways to eat entirely locally. One way is to grow your own food. This obviously requires a lot of time and effort, and may not be possible for everyone. Another way is to buy food from local farmers markets or join a community supported agriculture (CSA) program. This can be more expensive than buying food from the supermarket, but it supports local farmers and allows you to buy fresh, seasonal produce.

Whatever your choice, a good way to go about it is to be conscious about your food and the food chain.

It is possible to eat 100% locally, but it requires some effort and may be more expensive and very hard to source. While Farmnetz is not the perfect solution, we hope that it helps promote the local producers around you.

In the end, it is up to each individual to decide what they want to do. Some people may choose to eat only local food, while others may decide to eat a mix of local and imported food. There is no right or wrong answer, and it ultimately comes down to personal preference.
